Join us for an outstanding and inspiring educational experience.

Highlights
Teaching English and facilitating cross-cultural communication!

Students in the Master's Program in Teaching English to Speakers of other Languages (TESOL) learn in a multilingual and multicultural environment to become professionals who deliver quality instruction for teaching adults in a variety of settings. TESOL graduates are committed to leadership, service, social justice, and individual language rights. English is the lingua franca of the world, taught to millions every day, including the United States, where over 10 percent are foreign born; TESOL professionals are in high demand -- especially those with master's degrees.

Most of our recent graduates teach adult and college ESL students, who consist of two groups. First there are the immigrants enrolled in many community college adult education/ESL programs, who may range in age from early 20s to late 60s. Some of these students may also need first language literacy instruction, in addition to the learning of everyday English. The other group includes students often found in intensive English programs, both public and private. They are typically between 20 and 30, and are interested in studying for an undergraduate or graduate degree. They need academic English as well as survival English.

Founded in 1935, the Seattle University College of Education has a long and distinguished history of preparing ethical and reflective professionals. Our alumni include teachers, counselors, school psychologists, principals, superintendents, deans, community college faculty, college and university presidents and administrators, corporate and nonprofit executives, and independent educational and counseling specialists.
